You were right...

Remember how I made a big deal about that sermon on the 15th being my LAST. I did mean my last for that congregation and that remains true, but I was thinking it was my last for as far as I could see into the future. Well...

A LOT of unexpected twists and turns have come up in T's wedding week. A week of vacation is supposed to begin for her immediately after the wedding on Saturday and she secured a guest preacher for this Sunday of July 4th weekend weeks ago (maybe even months ago), but that guest preacher's husband has been very recently diagnosed with a illness that threatens paralysis and she is understandably wiping her calendar clean. I have a computer full of sermons so if T was o.k. with me recycling something I was happy to step in. Where else is she going to find a sub on July 4th weekend? The guest preacher was also supposed to perform the wedding ceremony and it was enough for T to ask one of her clergy guests to step in for that. I figure... it is a wedding present. I will preach on Sunday.

So I spent awhile yesterday going through the sermons in my computer and found one on one of the texts on which she was planning to preach (off lectionary- call of Samuel). I just spent some time rewriting the ending that was quite contextual (an ordination service in my local congregation). It is a long sermon and she typically preaches short sermons... but... it is what I've got. It will have to do.

Now I just hope all the other unexpected twists and turns end up o.k. for her.

We're getting our hands and feet done today... that should help.

(Sleeping a lot... thanks for the well wishes on sleep!)
